Braemar Golf Club has the highest 18 hole course in Great Britain. The new clubhouse is licensed and catering is available for members and visiting golfers. (tel 013397 41618)


Monday - Friday Round L15, Saturday & Sunday Round L18, Day L23, Weekly L80. Special day rate for parties (over 10) L12 per person. (L= UK pounds)

Mountain Sports

Glenshee Ski Centre, Cairnwell (2069 - 3502 feet) (tel 013397 41320) . 9 miles south of Braemar on A93. 26 Tows and 2 Chair-lifts. Restaurants; shop, toilets. Ski and Snowboard hire, instruction. Extensive parking. In summer the chair-lifts run to the top of the Cairnwell and the restaurant is open for meals, snacks and drinks.

The Lecht Ski Centre, Strathdon, (tel 01975 651440) : 25 miles north of Braemar, superbly complementing Glenshee, especially for beginners.

Braemar Mountain Sports, Mar Road, Braemar (tel 013397 41242) . Offering cross-country ski hire and tuition. Mountain bike hire.

Cairnwell Mountain Sports Glenshee by Blairgowrie (tel 01250 885255) . Hang Gliding, abseilling, skiing etc. tuition and hire.

Braemar Ski School (Winter only at) Castleton Hall, Glenshee Road (tel 07768 517829 ) Ski and Snowboard Hire and instruction. Equipiment may be used at Glenshee or The Lecht. More information on web site e-mail


Braemar offers the opportunity to ski at both the Glenshee and the Lecht Ski Centres.

It is also a good base for cross-country skiing and is the home of the Braemar Telemark Festival.



A wide range of walks leaflets is available from the Tourist Information Centre. Walks range from easy through to challenging.

 The hills above Braemar offer many opportunities to escape the rush and tumble of modern life.



River Fishing Brown Trout fishing available on Rivers Clunie, Gairn & Shee. Permits from Braemar TIC (tel 013397 41600) or Invercauld Estate Office (013397 41244). Season 15th March - 20th September. Fly Only.

Loch Fishing Loch Vrotichan, Contact Ballater Angling Association (013397 55365) Prices on application. Brown Trout only and fly only

Loch Bainnie and Loch Nan Eun. Brown Trout and fly fishing only. Contact Mr John Cruikshanks. (01250 885206). Boat available. prices : L6 per day, L25 per season approx. Covers both Lochs. (L = UK pounds)

Pony Trekking

Balmoral Estate, (tel 013397 42334/5) Available from mid April to End July. Treks through policies and woods. Rides over 12 years only. Hard Hats provided.

Children's Play Area

Havelock Recreation Park. Approached to rear of Invercauld Arms Hotel.
