Callater Hotel is a small, comfortable hotel in the historic Highland village of Braemar, near royal Balmoral Castle and the Whisky Trail. Braemar, home of the world-famous Highland Games, lies amongst beautiful Scottish hills and mountains by the River Dee, one of Scotland's finest salmon rivers. It is an excellent base for touring, walking, hill-walking, cycling, climbing, golf, skiing, fishing, shooting, and other holidays.

Set in grounds of over one acre (0.5 hectare) near the centre of the beautiful Highland village of Braemar, this licensed 7-bedroom hotel (built 1861) offers a comfortable and friendly stay with good food at very modest prices. Guest facilities, including ample parking, drying room and guest lounge, make for a very relaxing and enjoyable break.

Our Bed and Breakfast rates are in the range £24-29 per person for a room with en-suite bathroom and colour TV; a four course evening meal costs about £14.50. The food is personally cooked by Maria who makes extensive use of fresh local produce.

New Gradings

We are pleased to say that both the Automobile Association (AA) and the Scottish Tourist Board (STB) have recently awarded the hotel higher gradings. The AA has awarded us a fourth diamond while the STB have given us a HHHH Guest House rating. Though it can be described as a hotel or guest house we feel that `guest house' more accurately portrays the `small' and `personal' atmosphere of Callater Hotel.

Mike Franklin, one of the owners, also acts as a statistical consultant in biological and agricultural research.
Maria, who was born in South Africa, is a former nurse and mid-wife who now makes delicious meals, and does the gardening and all the decorating.

The footbridge in this picture crosses the River Dee at Cambus o'May. The plaque commemorates its re-opening by the Queen Mother.
